The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

As any major prize-giving event draws close, one notices an outcry for introducing additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for board games, this being someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession in the world of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories effectively encompass numerous genres, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: structural challenges of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year without proper recognition in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
  • Well-received sorting experience was overlooked recently
  • Just some logic titles scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

Restating the point, these represent titles without proper classification in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
