Close to 25,000 Left Without Electricity in Queensland and Victoria Following Severe Storms
Approximately 25,000 homes in south-east Queensland woke up without power on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms passed over the state, producing strong winds reaching 109km/h.
Massive Ice Stones and Broad Destruction
Homeowners reported substantial frozen pellets reaching sizes of 7cm in particular locations. Weather authorities announced that different parts across the state had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency crews were working to restore power throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units working to address the widespread outages.
Southern State's Storm Challenges
At the same time, nearly 1,000 residents in Victoria also faced power outages after the capital city recorded its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.
Rescue organizations handled nearly 600 calls for help across the area, primarily for building damage but also for fallen timber and flooding.
Hardest Hit Regions
- Werribee - recorded considerable destruction
- Hoppers Crossing - numerous assistance requests
- Wyndham region - over 175 calls for assistance
At one point on the previous day, more than 28,000 power users in Victoria were experiencing outages.
Meteorological Predictions
Moist weather were expected to linger along large portions of the state's eastern regions this week as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the coast.
The following day was expected to become the most rainy day, with ongoing storm activity anticipated across different parts of both regions.
Health Warning
Health officials warned that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, especially given the existing atmospheric conditions.
This warning comes after past events where comparable situations led to significant health impacts in the region.
